MEMO ON ADOXIST SOCIETY

About us:
The Adoxist Society is mainly a literary association.
-our aims are broadly associated with reading, writing and charity
-we aim for charitable status
-we are multi-natural and multicultural in outlook and in personnel
-we own books and we have discussion groups. (the groups are chapters, not classes, and are self-organised)
-we generate revenues through reading groups (which involve people from all nationalities including Koreans) and lending books to foreigners in Daegu
-with income streams we hope to, amongst other things, purchase books for the association and for orphanages
-we have connections with orphanages which have yet to be fully formalised
-we would like to have standing arrangements with schools and universities and their departments, including especially design and language
-we would like students (and others) to volunteer time with us, in return for experience in dealing with English speaking foreigners
-we would like to have assistance in the publication of our newspaper (published usually weekly), which we hope to expand in order to serve
*to publish notices of the society
*as an information sheet on the society
*as an information sheet on events etc. in community
*for other purposes, including to publish writings of members and others, and give students experience in publishing (arrangements with printworks may need to be made)
*as a source of lifestyle info, literary info, and entertainment

-we have a governing board which will need to be consulted on discussions
-we would like assistance in setting up our society in full legal formality, as well as advice on creating an image
-we will need to know legal boundaries in so far as foreigners can be actve in the community, either voluntary or paid
-at this stage, we operate on a small scale, but may expand
-there may be some way for your firm to associate itself with us and be seen to be involved in charitable work

PANTHEONIC COUNCIL OF THE DECEASED

Pierre Berton
Hunter S. Thompson
Arthur Miller
Jacques Derrida

(Chapter One motion 9/14)

CH 1 Chapter Council (management) agenda: 18 Mar

5) treasurer's address and update on treasury

6) (discussion) field trip for Chapter One

7) look at rules of fines for group, possibility of different system if members elect not to read

8) (discussion) Pantheonic Council of the Deceased

9) (discussion) the name of Chapter One

10) (motion to amend Adoxist Society Point Loss/Gain Penalties)
(A)The purpose of this proposal is to request that the Adoxist Society consider revising the point penalty system related to reading fines as follows.
(B)At present, members lose or gain points based on proper presentation for meetings. Proper presentation being, attendance, assigned reading completed, door fee prepared to pay. In addition, the door fee has been increased from W1,000 to W1,500, and financial penalties will be foregone for reading assignments left unread, but points will be lost as a result.
(C)I motion that this process be altered to the following. When a member has not completed the reading, or has elected not to read a prescribed selection on any given week, that member should be given the option to buy their potentially earned or lost point(s) for that week.
(D)I feel that this is a meaningful and valid proposition because points earned today may sway important and meaningful decisions that affect a members reading life in the future.
(E)Thankyou for considering this request for revision.
(F)Regards, Benjamin Schwartz (signed)
